Lot 39 C/I Steam Locomotive Smokebox Numberplate "45110" - the VERY LAST BR PASSENGER SERVICE NUMBERPLATE - as carried by a Stanier designed ex LMS Class 5MT 4-6-0 built at the Vulcan Foundry, Newton-Le-Willows, Lancs in June 1935. Allocations included Holyhead, Stafford, Bolton and Lostock Hall from where it was withdrawn in August 1968. This was the last BR owned standard gauge steam locomotive to haul a service on the national network. It took the first leg from Liverpool Lime Street to Manchester Victoria at the beginning of the famous 'FIFTEEN GUINEA SPECIAL' railtour on 11 August 1968, before running from Manchester Victoria to Liverpool Lime Street with the returning train at the end of the tour. The loco was purchased straight from service for preservation and was based at the nascent Ashford Steam Centre where it was named 'RAF Biggin Hill' and subsequently purchased by the Severn Valley Railway where it has been based since then.
