108 A Very Rare GWR Solid Brass 'STROKE COUNTER'. Titled "GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY - SWINDON". From a stationary Beam Engine - almost certainly one of those which worked in the Sudbrook Pumping Station to keep the Severn Tunnel clear, until they were replaced by electric pumps - around 1959. Date from about 1885. Complete with lock and ratchet handle. A very fine piece indeed. Superb condition. £1300

The box was the penultimate GER box on the March-Peterborough line and was located just east of Peterborough East station, controlling the loco yard and turntable (after which it was named) and the extensive sidings. It was closed under the Peterborough resignalling scheme in 1972. The actual turntable (previously at Bourne) is now to be found at Wansford station, Nene Valley Railway. 150 A Superb and desirable Brass Nameplate "SNOWDON" as carried by a Webb designed ex LNWR/LMS Precedent Class 1P 2-4-0 Locomotive later known as Jumbo?s it was built at Crewe works in April 1875. Originally L & NWR No 2191 its number was changed to 5001 when it was rebuilt in November 1892, it then became into LMS stock as No 25001 for a short time in April 1934 before being withdrawn in October of that year. A superb plate from the last of the class to be withdrawn the plate is 49" long and lightly polished. The vendor?s father purchased the nameplate after seeing it advertised in a Railway Magazine in the early 1960?s, it was hanging in the hall of her parents? house in Market Harborough for many years before her father died in 1979. The nameplate was put into store as her husband was posted to Hong Kong. After their return in 1985 they went to live in Essex, having retrieved the plate from storage they moved to Ibiza in 2004 and the plate has been hanging in their hallway until recettly. Never been offered in auction before. A very nice example mounted on a wooden back board ready to hang!! £8500

This location is a well-known to rail enthusiasts/trainspotters in the Birmingham/Midlands area as Steam freight trains normally required banking assistance at this point due to the steep climb and was just a short distance from Saltley locomotive shed and which also gave views of the Birmingham to London line. The board was purchased privately from BR and collected from Saltley Station in March 1966 it has been in the vendor?s possession since his father purchased both sides for the princely sum of 10/- shillings (Ten Bob). One side unfortunately had deteriorated to such an extent that it had to be broken up however the remaining board remains in good condition. This is an iconic location features in one of the well -known Philip Hawkins recent painting of a 9F with the Signal box in the background. A wonderful opportunity to own a piece of Birmingham history it measures 10" x 89" and is accompanied by photos of the box and boards from the sixties. 284 ELECTRIC LOCOMOTIVE NAMEPLATE "MINERVA" As Carried by an EM2 No. E27005. Class 77 Built by BR at Gorton in 1953 introduced into service by December 1954. Withdrawn in September 1968. The whole class of 77s was then purchased for export to the Netherlands State Railway in 1969. Six out of the seven were renumbered 1501 to 1506 but this particular locomotive was never re-numbered and was dismantled for spares. Totally ex-loco condition retaining its original threaded bolts. A rare opportunity to acquire a name from this limited class.

Allocations included Plymouth Laira, Reading, Gloucester Horton Rd and Old Oak Common from where it was withdrawn in May 1962 having travelled in excess of 1.6 Million miles. Scrapped at Cashmores Newport 11/62. Plate purchased direct from Swindon, never been offered for sale before. Was Berkeley Castle an unlucky locomotive being the thirteenth CASTLE? – Well it was for George Jackson Churchward. On the 19th December 1933, Churchward (now nearly 77 and with failing eyesight and hearing) was wandering on the main line at Swindon inspecting a faulty sleeper when he was hit and killed by BERKELEY CASTLE, which was in charge of a Paddington to Fishguard express. 380 Extremely Rare Survivor – S & D J Rly Concrete Station Name Sign "ASHCOTT AND MEARE" – On the branch line to Burnham-on- Sea. It was opened in July 1856 (as Ashcott and Meare), renamed Ashcott in 1876 and was closed to freight on 13 July 1964 and completely on 7 March 1966. It consisted of a single platform, originally wood and later replaced by a pre-fabricated Southern Railway structure. There were peat works in this area with two lots of sidings connecting to the line. The Eclipse Peat Company in addition had a two foot gauge network. This station only had one name sign and this is it. A one off!!!!! Been with the vendor since he collected from the disused station in the early 1970’s and purchased it for the princely sum of a £5.oo note. Size 109" x 18". £500
