Its main allocations were Doncaster (36A) and Grantham (34F).  It was withdrawn and stored at Grantham 9/63 – 1/64. It was cut up at Rigleys, Bulwell Forest Wagon Works 2/64. Size “13” x 7½”. Excellent condition, good example.

AN LNER BRASS LOCOMOTIVE NAMEPLATE “ST FRUSQUIN” as carried by the LNER 3-cylinder A3 Pacific named after the winner of the 1896 2000 guineas and ten other races. Originally numbered as 2574 built at Doncaster in October 1924. Later renumbered 75 by the LNER in 1946 then BR number 60075 in 1948. The locomotive had spells at Gateshead and Heaton from where it was withdrawn in 1/64. Stored and cut up at Darlington works in 4/64.

It was named “SAMARIA” in September 1962 and withdrawn 10/84. In totally ex-loco condition still with its original threaded bolts to the rear. Sadly it suffered some damage whilst going through the washing plant; indented and a two inch hole above the “M” in the name. Never been offered in auction before.

The Company built a batch of these Locomotives for “THE ANGLO AMERICAN CORPORATION OF SOUTH AFRICA”. AN EXTREMELY RARE GWR CAST IRON CABSIDE NUMBER PLATE “GWR 1392” from a 4-4-0 T. Built by the Yorkshire Engine Company in 1871 for the Neath & Brecon Railway, numbered No. 5, rebuilt in 1898 with a cab fitted, then got absorbed by the GWR in 1923, from when it was re-numbered “GWR 1392”.  The loco only remained in service for three years and was then withdrawn.

An S.N.C.F. ROUND ALLOY “NORTH BRITISH RAILWAY” WORKSPLATE. No 21591 – 1917. As carried by a French ETAT. Lot No L690. Works 21583/607 Class 140 2-8-0 Loco 140C354. The order for 200 of the class was placed in the UK because the French Factories were fully occupied with producing material for the war effort. In Ex loco condition. A GWR  BRASS LOCOMOTIVE CABSIDE No 426as carried by an ex-Brecon and Merthyr Railway 0-6-2T built by R Stephenson & Co in March 1914 as B&MR No 41.  Renumbered as GWR No 888 in 1924, and as No 426 in April 1947.  Withdrawn March 1950.  Based at Basseleg MPD until that depot closed in 1929, then located at Newport (Alexandra Docks) shed, and later a few final years at Llantrisant.  One of the B&M's larger locos, used for hauling heavy freight from collieries in the Rhymney Valley to the docks at Newport,  No 426 was one of only 13 B&MR locos to survive into BR ownership.  Un-restored front, with the numbers lightly polished, ex-loco back, with CAERPHILLY in old faded paint.  3-digit brass Cabsides are exceedingly rare; this is the first time any Cabside from a  B&MR loco has ever been offered at auction. A truly rare item.

Background is BR green with orange and black lining and a black skirt at the base. From Bullied Southern Railway design “Battle of BritainClass 4-6-2 № 34081 “92 SQUADRON built at Brighton Works in September 1948 and named after the Spitfire Squadron based at Biggin Hill in 1940 during the Battle of Britain. A one time Ramsgate loco, by the time of its withdrawal in August 1964 it was based at Eastleigh. It was sold to Woodham's at Barry but rescued by the Battle of Britain Locomotive Preservation Society in autumn 1973 and three years later arrived at the Nene Valley Railway for restoration which was completed in 1998. It has been a regular performer on Heritage Railways since then, but is currently out of service and is again at Wansford for overhaul. 70” x 50½” and good in ex-loco condition, much soot and grime to be found on the back.

This is an absolutely unique item from two short NBR branch lines, which ran off the Waverley Route. The short Dalkeith branch was closed to passengers in 1942 and is now the site of a bus station.  Polton station was the terminus of the latter line, with intermediate stations at Broomieknowe and Lasswade. The line closed to passenger traffic in 1951 and goods in 1960/61.  C15s worked passenger services and C15s / J36s the goods services. Size 140” long.  Rare survivor, good condition.

AN EARLY WOODEN THREE-LEGGED TRIPOD (approx 5ft in height) FROM THE BLACKBURN CLITHEROE NORTH WEST JUNCTION RAILWAY TO ACCOMMODATE A THEODOLITE MOUNTED ON A BRASS TOP (company name stamped on brass top). A rare survivor from a line which never existed. The Fleetwood, Preston and West Riding Railway was formed with the object of linking Fleetwood with the then projected railway The Blackburn, Clitheroe and North West Junction Railway, and beyond to a connection with the Leeds & Bradford Railway at Elslack, just west of Skipton. The portion beyond Clitheroe was subsequently passed over to the Blackburn, Clitheroe company for development but the company, however, never proceeded with the proposed line.

The lamp is devoid of paint but complete with red and blue glasses and LMS marked domed vessel and burner.  The side of the base has been over plated (a common practice with LNWR transitional lamps) and is marked LMSR Wolverton. A 34874 .This could be removed if required to show original location and number. Bescot Traffic can be clearly seen when viewed from the inside of the base. Small flake of glass missing from the inside of the front glass does not detract from what is a fine lamp.

Six out of the seven were renumbered 1501 to 1506 but this particular locomotive was never re-numbered and was dismantled for spares. Totally ex-loco condition retaining its original threaded bolts. A BRASS DUAL LANGUAGE SOUTH AFRICAN RAILWAY LOCOMOTIVE CABSIDE NUMBER PLATE 3457 25NC from the 3ft 6in gauge 4-8-4 locomotive built by North British in 1953, Works No.27317. Originally supplied to SAR as a Class 25 condensing locomotive for working over the Karoo on the Cape Town to Johannesburg main line. With the coming of main line electrification, the loco was rebuilt in 1976 to a free steaming locomotive and re-classified 25NC, during which time the letters NC were affixed to the original number plate. Allocated to Beaconsfield Loco Shed, Kimberley, for use over the main line south to De-Arr, and by the eighties worked out of Warrenton, where it later spent a period in store. Reported to be still in existence and stored for preservation at Beaconsfield.

THE RAILWAY EXECUTIVE. The original 1948 BR COAT OF ARMS of lion standing over wheel and “British Railways” carved on a circular piece of solid oak with a stand attached to the back for display purposes. 18” diameter with the makers name LG Pearce and dated 1950 on the back. It is thought this may have been used for display in one of the BR regional boardrooms. A rare example.
