A TOTEM “TODD LANE JUNCTION”BR (M) Maroon. Fully flanged. From the ex-East Lancashire Railway station, between Preston and Bamber Bridge on the Blackburn line. It opened as “Preston Junction” in 1847, was renamed in 1952 and closed in 1968. Good colour and shine.

A B.R. (W.)Station enamel “TO TORQUAY PLYMOUTH AND CORNWALL LINES” (f/f) in exceptionally fine condition, no face chips. Good colour and shine Size 60” x 18”. In excellent condition.

A Very rare B.R. (NE) enamel door plate, “TIME OFFICE” condition, some face restoration. Good colour and shine Size 18 x 3½. A sought after door plate in good condition. NEVER BEEN OFFERED IN AUCTION BEFORE.

A Steam Locomotive Worksplate “PECKETT & SONS LTD 0-4-0ST No 2076 BRISTOL 1946”, Also inscribed on the face of the plate is 9207/2. Entered traffic on the 26/8/46, to Bedlington Coal company, Northumberland. Then in 1948 it became N.C.B. No 51 and worked at Bedlington “A” Colliery where it remained until being withdrawn and scrapped in November 1968.

Oval engraved brass 15” x 8¼”. Face polished only and with its rear bolts. STAFFORD COLLECTION.

Cut up at Cohens, Swansea 4/64. Totally ex loco condition. A pair of original “LEATHER COVERED DRAUGHTSMAN’S OFFICE LEAD PAPERWEIGHTS”. One stamped L.N.W.R. on all four sides, one stamped L.M.S. on all four sides. These were acquired from an employee who actually worked in the Crewe Drawing Offices back in the 1940’s. In very good condition for their age. A real rarity.  (NEVER BEEN OFFERED BEFORE IN AUCTION).

A TOTEM “RAWTENSTALL” BR (M) Maroon. Fully flanged. An ex East Lancs. Railway station between Ramsbottom- Bacup opened in 1846 and closed in 1972. Reopened as the terminus station for “The East Lancs Railway”. Only the second time known in auction. Very good condition and shine. NOT COMMON.

A C/I L.M.S. “D” shaped Wagon plate No 402. This very low numbered plate appears to have been cleaned and primed, showing all signs of the casting marks. In very good condition. Thanks to Mr Tim Petchey of R.A.G Magazine for casting his expert eye over it.

A C/I Smokebox Numberplate “45654” L.M.S. As carried by the ex LMS Class 5XP (later Class 6P) ‘Jubilee’ 4-6-0, LMS 5654, built at Crewe as Works No. 215 in February 1935. It was named ‘HOOD’ (after the Admiral) on 29th May 1936, and became BR 45654 in June 1949. Initially allocated to Camden, it moved to Rugby in 1935; Derby in 1937; Kentish Town in 1939; Millhouses in 1950; Canklow in 1961; Agecroft in 1962; Newton Heath in 1963; Stockport in 1964; and Newton Heath again in 1965 from where it was withdrawn on 25th June 1966, to be cut up by Wards of Beighton, Sheffield in October. The plate is repainted over old paint. It is accompanied by the original BR correspondence and receipt,  a fine 13¾” x 11” photograph of it at Newton Heath in September 1966 and also a superb photograph album. It was last in Auction in Dec 2003.

A Diesel LOCOMOTIVE NAMEPLATE “VANQUISHER” carried by the Warship, Class 43 locomotive numbered D859. The nameplate was applied by the North British Locomotive Co. prior to delivery to British Railways in January 1962. The hydraulic locomotive spent a decade working type 4 duties for the Western Region with appearances on the top passenger services of the mid 1960’s. Another regular working for this class was the Waterloo to Exeter service up to 1971. Front restored, back ex loco.

A Brass Industrial Locomotive Nameplate “LUNDIE” as carried by a 0-6-0 O/C Andrew Barclay Works No 1091/ 1906. New to “Cardiff Steam Collieries Ltd”, Llanbradach in 1906 as their No 1. Then in January 1947 became the property of the National Coal Board. By September 1961 it had moved to Tredegar Central Workshops, then by 1963 had moved again to NCB Bedwas Colliery where it was scrapped on site in 1968. Serif lettering, scalloped corners. Size 30” x 6¼” A Nice Example.

An Ian Allan British Railways Locomotive Combined Volume “APRIL 1956 EDITION”. Showing 92028 on front cover.  An excellent example of this very rare combined volume. The first to be produced with laminate covers. The only minor fault is a 1 ½” x ¼” rectangle stamped in green on the first flyleaf. Otherwise the book is in excellent unmarked condition. The spine is in brilliant condition. An absolute gem.

A Unique folder of paperwork comprising 

an individual’s account of the Metropolitan Railway entitled ‘A Short Account of Its Seventy Years of Independent Operation’. It was written by Mr. Clifford Baker. The work has been compiled mainly from official records from notes made during the author’s apprenticeship at Neasden from 1923 to 1928 and from material collected subsequently. It is mainly type written with extra handwritten material and maps and diagrams.  A unique opportunity to acquire one person’s point of view of the development of the Metropolitan Railway as he saw it. The top and body are prominently marked L.N.W.R. whilst the original location has been over plated and stamped L.M.S.R and numbered A4952. By removing the inner drum, the name CURZON ST GOODS along with A4952 can be seen in reverse clearly stamped into the lamp body. It was BR D1668 (named in October 1965), 47083 from March 1974 and 47633 from November 1983, when this nameplate was fitted. It was denamed in 1985 and finally withdrawn on April 26th 1991. 28¼” x 8”. In more or less ex-loco condition with a heavily sulphurated back.

A C/ I Shedplate, “21C” BROMSGROVE. This particular plate was removed from the famous steam locomotive 56100 “BIG BERTHA”, the notorious “LICKEY BANKER”. The plate remained in a private collection for many years until it was loaned to the “The Bromsgrove Museum” in 1998. It remained on show until 2008, from where it was returned back to the owner. Now we have been given the privilege of offering it for auction. In superb ex loco condition, showing all the accumulation of soot and grime you would expect. This plate is accompanied by documentation from Bromsgrove Museum.

A C/I Smokebox Numberplate “60031” and Two Shedplates 64B and 65B. These fine rare examples were carried by the LNER A4 class 4-6-2 Pacific 4497 “GOLDEN PLOVER “built at Doncaster as work No 1862. Entered traffic on the 2/10/1937. Became LNER “31” from May 1946, BR 60031 from June 1948. Always a Haymarket engine it moved to St Rollox in Feb 1962 from where it was withdrawn on the 29/10/1965.Scrapped by Cambell of Shieldhall in December 1965. The face background has been repainted but not the numerals. The back is completely ex loco. A superb colour photograph, 10” x 8” showing 60031 0n the Elizabethan at Grantham in 1959 and a photo album with many good shots of the loco in service also accompanies this lot. Both Numberplate and the two Shed code plates are mounted on a display board.
